Sports grant

Holly Park

The government has given extra funding to schools to be spent on sport in school. The aim is to increase sport provision for children and also to improve the quality of the provision they receive.

PE and school sport play an important part in the life of Holly Park. We believe that PE plays an important part in the holistic development of our children and through this they learn more about values such as respect, co-operation, team spirit, friendship, courage, determination etc

AIMS:

  • To use the Sports Grant to raise the outcomes for the children by ensuring that each pupil has access to high quality PE provision and that they engage in regular physical activity.
  • To improve teacher subject knowledge in PE
  • To develop a vision that recognises that by the time each child leaves Holly Park they will have become positive in their approach to physical activity, achieved personal success and developed an attitude that allows them to have the confidence to try new experiences through the next stages of their life.
  • To use the resilience learned through playing sport in their wider school life and on into their adult  lives and to develop the desire to be active, healthy adults.

The grant for 2016-17 is £9950. This is how we plan to spend it:

  • £1,100 to buy in to Barnet Partnership for School Sports. (This allows us to enter competitions and access free coaching)
  • £7,296 to be spent on further coaching for a day a week across the school year
  • £1,544 for PE resources and support

Barnet Partnership for School Sport

We use our Sports Grant to buy into the Barnet Partnership for School Sport. This allows us to take part in various competitions across Barnet. Last year we took part in many competitions with other schools – lots of football, netball, cross country, gymnastics and athletics.

We also participated in the Barnet School’s Dance Festival. IMPACT – This raised the profile of sport in school and we kept the school community updated about it through the weekly newsletter, on the website and in the termly Holly Park highlights.

Many pupils did well on an individual basis (1st in cross country).

Teams did well:

  • Our netball team went from strength to strength.
  • Our girls football team were 2nd in the league, came 3rd in the borough finals and won the East Barnet Tournament. They were in the final of the East girl’s cup and won.
  • The boys got to the semi finals in the Dick Bailey Cup.
  • We entered our first ever gymnastics competition. There were 3 team entered. The Year 2 team came 4th out of 14 schools. the Year 3&4 team came 5th out of 11 schools and the Year 5&6 team came 5th out of 15 other schools.
  • The inter school Barnet athletics competition was a massive success for Holly Park this year. We won five trophies including field events, boys relay, girls relay, overall school winner of all Barnet medium sized schools and also overall winner of all Barnet North schools.
